What You Should Know About Wireless Speakers

Technology has come so far over the last few years it is difficult to even see a resemblance to the electronics that we grew up with. Today it is all about high definition, blue ray, and wireless speakers! Who would have thought that they would figure out a way to give you great sound without the mass of wires running all over the house?

Several companies have managed to do just that and the convenience is out of this world not to mention the aesthetics. Since the technology has been invented, there are more than a few companies offering wireless speakers. You can choose from dual speakers, singles, and surround sound systems that all come with one thing, wireless speakers!

How They Work

Wireless speakers take a radio or infrared electrical signal and transform it into acoustic sound. The only difference between wireless speakers and regular speakers is the manner in which they receive the sound.

The first type of wireless speakers is based on radio transmission of FM signal from a special transmitter to the wireless speakers. In a set up like this, you will receive speakers and the special transmitter, which can be used with a wide variety of electronic devices. The transmitter will be connected to your audio device and send the signal out to the speakers. Manufacturers have range recommendations that start at 150 feet and go as high as 300. This is the maximum distance you can have between the speakers and the FM transmitter. The wonderful thing is the distance does not have to be clear, you can have walls, furniture and even other electronic devices between the transmitter and the wireless speakers and have no interference.

The second type uses infrared to send the signal to the speakers. This is most commonly used only with wireless speakers that are a part of a home theater system. The first type will by far be the most common technology used by manufacturers due to convenience and most speaker manufacturer are changing their product line from wired speakers to wireless speakers since consumers are also changing their gear into more modern and environmental friendly electronics.
