| Choosing a wireless speaker system for your home a review of Home Theater by : Posted: 05 Mar 2012 06:29 AM PST Choosing a wireless speaker system for your home Choosing a wireless speaker system for your home can be a simple proposition, if you know what to look for. In my first blog, I will talk about the a few basics about wireless speaker system technologies…what to look for and what to stay away from. Analog Wireless Speaker Systems 900HMz analog wireless speaker systems have been around for years. Even the best of the “old school” 900 MHz analog wireless speaker systems are fraught with so many problems, that most of them end up being returned. Analog wireless speaker systems give wireless audio a bad name! While they are inexpensive, they have a limited range; poor sound quality and are highly susceptible to all kinds of interference. They hiss, whine, crackle & pop. As a search on Google will show, there are a ton of these low cost wireless speakers systems available. Word to the wise…avoid them at all cost! Digital Wireless Speaker Systems Digital wireless speaker systems are beginning to come into their own. A growing number of companies are beginning to offer a growing array of digital wireless speaker systems. Most digital wireless speaker systems operate in the 2.4 GHz range, the same frequency that WiFi, Bluetooth, Cordless phones and even your Microwave oven operates on. It’s a crowed place. In creating our own Eos Wireless Speaker System, we had to make sure to choose a wireless technology that allowed us to steer clear of all of the interference by sniffing out the band and hopping around, always finding a channel that is not being used and then skipping around, never spending more that a few milliseconds on each channel in the 2.4GHz band. This is an important consideration when choosing a wireless speaker system for your home, as making the wrong choice will cause your WiFi to drop out an/or cause the speakers cut in and out. Wireless range Another key consideration in choosing a wireless speaker system should be range. Since many of these wireless speaker systems allow you to play your music in multiple rooms and even outdoors, you’ll want to choose a speaker with the longest wireless range rating. The Eos Wireless Speaker System that we created has a real-world range of up to 150 ft (50M). The signal will travel through walls, floors, ceilings and doors, indoors and out…making them a great choice for multi-room audio and especially for outdoor music on your patio or by your pool or spa. Multi-Room Audio Capability The ability to enjoy your music throughout your house is very cool! We’ve all be into a model home and marveled at the awesome ability to hear music from room to room while traveling though the house. Traditionally, multi-room music systems required a systems contractor to wire you house at a price tag would scare most of us off. Wireless Speaker Systems have changed the game, by making multi-room wireless speaker systems affordable and simple to install. The Eos Wireless Speaker System allows you to put great sounding wireless speakers throughout your house at a minimal cost. Our Eos portable wireless speaker/receiver is an all-in-one unit that allows you to move your music from room to room. This Eos portable wireless speaker system has in integrated power supply so it can hang on any wall outlet, and because if it’s integrated design, you can move it anywhere by just unplugging it and plugging it in somewhere else. If you do not spend time in the home theater room ideas phase, you may find that the room does not meet your needs and that you may not have the ultimate movie experience. Home Theater Design Ideas Whether you are creating the room or retrofitting an existing space in your home, you need to maximize the space so it provides you with the best experience possible. Shape and size are both important. Square rooms create a phenomenon known as standing waves where bass emphasis is created and it ruins your overall sound quality. The ideal proportions for your home theater space are rectangular dimensions that are not divisible by a common denominator. For example, don’t use a room that measures 24 x 16 x 8; pick one with the dimensions of 23 x13 x 7. Consider installing sand or other sound dampening materials into the wall cavities to increase the sound resistance of the room. Sound is going to be a factor that you need to consider, as it will travel throughout your home unless it is dampened. If the home theater room design is on a lower level, then the ceiling will also have to be insulated in order to reduce the disturbance that sound will have on the other parts of the home. Equipment When you are developing home theater design ideas, it is important that you take the time to layout where the electronics are going to be located. Everything from the receiver to the DVD player needs to be placed in a specific area to allow for the ultimate movie experience. Do not scrimp on the sound equipment because you used the majority of your budget on an HD projector or on furniture and lighting control. You should use half of your home theater equipment budget for speakers and amplifiers. Nothing is more unsatisfying or a bigger disappointment than having a gorgeous, breathtaking high-definition visual image accompanied by a weak, poor-quality soundscape. One of the major issues to consider are the cables — running cables when walls are open is a lot easier then snaking them through sealed walls. You should take enough time to have a proper home theater room design; so that all speakers and cables are installed prior to the walls being closed up. Lighting A home theater room that is well-designed can provide you with an enjoyable experience. While these rooms are meant to be dark, they should not be completely void of light. There are going to be times when you or your guests are going to excuse themselves and it is important for them to see their way out of the room. You should consider low lighting in the floor or baseboards that will provide the least amount of light necessary to navigate throughout the room. This task can be completed when you are developing home theater room ideas. A properly designed home theater room will provide you and your family with the entertainment experience you normally find at the movies. By spending the proper amount of time on your home theater room design, you will be able to create a space that you are not only proud of but also one that meets your every need.
